E-mail marketing tips and guides
Four factors that have big impact on your email marketing campaigns
There are four basic factors that directly affect the outcome of any email marketing campaign. Ask yourself these questions, and if you answer "yes" to most of the questions—your campaign should be set for success.
1) Email List: Is the email list comprised of people who know you and are expecting to receive email from you? Although people have found some success in bulk emailing (much to the dismay of anti-spammers), you will always find more success in permission based email marketing.
2) Subject Line: Is your subject short and to the point? Is it relevant to the product or service? The best practices in email marketing include never using deceptive subject lines. For example, using "Your statement is ready" as the subject line and when the recipient opens the email, it is about a product or service. This practice is actually illegal, and honesty and respect for your customers and prospects is necessary. Expedite Email Marketing does not allow deceptive subject lines.
3) Message: Is it in HTML or text? HTML has always yielded better results in email marketing, because the use of pictures makes it much more engaging. Does your message contain a working link to where you’re directing your customers and prospective customers? There is nothing more frustrating for both parties when links are not working properly. Is there a working out opt-out link at the bottom of your message? If you use our email marketing services, we will automatically add an opt-out link for you, and ensure that it is working.
4) Reporting: Can you tell how many people viewed your email marketing message, how many recipients clicked through from your message to your Web site, and how many opted out from receiving future mailings from you? Every campaign needs a measuring stick, and reporting and analyses of your campaigns will help you figure out what about your email marketing campaigns is working well and what is not.
How email is delivered:
Electronic mail, or email, is the most heavily used feature of the Internet. Millions of people send and receive email on a daily basis, but did you ever wonder how email really works? Here is short overview of how your email is delivered:
- After you compose an email and press send, it is sent as stream of packets using the Internet's TCP/IP protocol. Each packet bears the address of the destination, among many other kinds of information, such as the address of the sender.
- Routers on the Internet look at the addresses in each packets and send the packets on the best path to get there. Many factors go into how the packets are routed, including the traffic volume on various backbones. Each packet might take a different route, so the email packets can arrive at the destination out of order.
How an email list works:
- Email mailing lists are a way for groups of people to have public discussions via email. After you join a mailing list, every message you write to the list can be read by everyone on that list.
- To join a mailing list, you must subscribe to it. You subscribe by sending an email message to the mail list administrator and asking to join the list. To cancel your subscription to the list, you must send a cancellation request to the list administrator.
- The email mailing list itself is a database of email addresses of people who have subscribed to it. When you asked to subscribe, you are added to the database.
- When the computer on which the database resides receives a message to be sent to the mailing list, it automatically sends the message to every address in the mailing list database. Some mailing lists are very active, and people on them can receive dozens of messages daily. Because of that, it's a good idea to check your mail frequently and clean out your mailbox. Otherwise, it’s possible to bog down your mail server, which can make it difficult for you to read your mail because you'll have so much of it.
